M.A.T.E. Contests

The Spoken English Contest
The Spoken English Contest is held every year in March - April and includes two sections:
Impromptu Speech: students (grades 7-12) receive a topic and have to speak about it for three minutes without the help of any notes.
Prepared Speech: students (grades 7-12) prepare a speech and deliver it before a jury, using posters, pictures, maps, a power point presentation, realia, or any other objects they consider relevant.
The prizes for these two sections are as follows: 1st prize for grades between 10 and 9:50, 2nd prize between 9:49 and 9:25, 3rd prize for grades 9:24 and 9:00.
Registrations are made only by teachers, meeting the deadline in the Calendar of events for the respective year. There are no fees for students whose teachers are MATE members. Other participants need to pay a fee which varies according to the section they take part in and is mentioned in the same Calendar of Events.
Results for the Impromtu and Prepared Speech are posted in 2, maximum 3 days after the contest via the yahoogroup for teachers who are MATE members and after having been checked to make sure there are no inaccuracies, they are posted on the site.
Creative Writing
Students (grades 5-12) send their original creations (poetry, prose or essays – max 5 per student) on CD and hard copy to a jury, meeting the deadline in the Calendar of MATE Events (usually the date of the Spoken English contest). As there is a very big number of participants and the process is a long and thorough one, the results are announced on the occasion of the MATE Conference each year.
