Our Conference invites you to reflect and elaborate on the idea of the 'never ending story' of the quest for best methods and approaches to understanding, learning and teaching English.
The 'L' and 'T' in the title stand for 'learning' and 'teaching', but they could very well mean 'liberating & triumphant', 'laughable & trivial', or 'long & tedious'. It is through such seemingly irrelevant word games that one of the most important things about our jobs becomes apparent: we are dealing with a live and unpredictable universe of meaningful communication. Today English spans across the globe and fields of activities so diverse that no scholar, or machine for that matter, can take it all in.
It is up to us to reflect such changes in the status of English language through new strategies aiming at integrating in our classes, lectures or books everything that English is nowadays. Words are keys, but now we have to struggle with the knowledge of all possible doors to be unlocked with these elusive tools.
Are teachers still 'walking dictionaries'? Are they essentially fellow learners of their own students? Is language learning a matter of the heart or of the brain? Such questioning is in itself never ending.
We invite our participants to be creative and focus on the seminal value of their educational enterprises, on those ideas or methods able to follow the winding path of contemporary language developments. Teacher trainers, primary or secondary school teachers, university lecturers, text book authors, ELT researchers and any other language learning facilitators are all welcome to take part in our conference. Chosen topics could fall into any of the following categories:
Cross-curricular approaches to ELT,
ELT mentoring,
Multiculturalism and English, teaching tolerance through English,
Teaching English through drama,
English language through the world wide web,
Designing new curricula and syllabi,
Teaching ESP creatively.
